Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
1. Overview
This policy explains how Mingles collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). It applies to the Mingles website and, where relevant, information collected as part of our in-person verification process.
2. Information We Collect
Account information: your email address and password (stored in encrypted/hashed form, we never see your plain-text password). Profile information: gender, birth year, region, occupation, ethnicity, self-introduction, and any display name you choose — the required fields you complete when setting up your profile. Photos: optional images you upload. Verification information: as part of registering to attend a Mingles event, we (or our event team) confirm your occupation and identity; we retain the outcome of that check (reflected as a badge) rather than storing detailed verification documents on the website itself. Usage information: interests you express, messages you send, profiles you bookmark, and your credit balance and transaction history. Payment-related information: the credit top-up amount you request and the reference you use for a bank transfer — we do not collect or store card numbers or full bank account details through the website.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: operate your profile and the matching/messaging features; verify eligibility to use pre-verified features and attend events; process credit top-ups you report and apply confirmed credits to your balance; send you transactional emails (such as verification, password reset, new-interest and new-message notifications, and credit confirmations); investigate reports and moderate content to keep the community safe; and improve and maintain the website.
4. Who Can See Your Information
Visitors who are not logged in can see limited profile information only: gender, age group, region, occupation, and ethnicity. Your photos and self-introduction are never shown to logged-out visitors. Once you log in, other members can additionally see your self-introduction and photos, in line with the same rules that apply to how you see theirs. Party Attendee and Verified badges are visible to everyone, including logged-out visitors, as they are a core part of how Mingles builds trust in the community. Mingles administrators can access full profile information, messages, and activity for moderation, customer support, and safety purposes.
5. How We Store and Protect Your Information
Your information is stored with Supabase, hosted in the ap-southeast-2 (Sydney, Australia) region, and the website itself is hosted on Vercel. Passwords are never stored in plain text. Uploaded photos are kept in a private storage bucket and are only ever made available to another logged-in member via a short-lived, individually generated link — they are not published at a permanent public web address.
6. Third-Party Service Providers
We share limited information with service providers who help us run Mingles, each acting under their own privacy and security obligations: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Vercel (website hosting), and Resend (sending transactional emails, such as verification links and notifications). We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
7. Payment Information
Because we currently use manual bank transfers rather than a card payment processor, we only ever see the reference and amount you tell us you transferred, matched against our own bank statement by an administrator — we do not collect your card or bank account numbers through the website. When we add card payments in future, that processor's own privacy practices will apply to the payment details you give them, and we will update this policy.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account and profile information for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, accounting, and dispute-resolution obligations (for example, credit transaction records). If you close your account, we will deactivate your public profile and de-identify or delete personal information we no longer need to keep, except where we are required or permitted by law to retain it.
9. Your Rights
You can access and correct most of your profile information at any time from your dashboard. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated personal information, by contacting us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity first.
10. Children
Mingles is intended for people aged 18 and over, and our sign-up process requires a birth year consistent with being at least 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
11. Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your language preference. We do not currently use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as Mingles evolves, for example when we add new features or service providers. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
13. Complaints
If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, please contact us first using the details below so we can try to resolve it. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
14. Contact
For any privacy question, access request, or deletion request, email the admin address configured for this Mingles instance (see the site's README/admin settings for the current contact email).
